Outdoor & Environmental Noise

Permanent and Portable Noise Monitoring Instruments

The measurement of Environmental Noise covers a wide range of sources and situations. For example, OHD/Cirrus Research Environmental Noise Monitors are used in the following applications and measurement situations.

We have a range of noise measurement instruments, software packages and support options, all of which can be combined to build an effective noise monitoring system.

Applications

Instruments & Options

A noise monitoring system starts with the instruments used to measure, record and monitor the noise levels.

These can be either Fixed & Installed Noise Monitors, as described below, or portable units that can be moved to different locations as required.

Cirrus has a range of Fixed & Installed Noise Monitors that can be used in wide range of different applications and locations and these are detailed below.

Permanent Noise Monitors

Portable Noise Monitors

Permanent Noise Monitors

CR:243/1 Noise Monitoring TerminalCR:243/1

The CR:243/1 is a permanently installed Noise Monitoring Terminal which can either have a fixed mast or be attached to a building.

Normally, the CR:243/1 unit is used with the MK:426A Outdoor Microphone, which provides the acoustic signals to the main instrument, and allows fully automatic calibration using an electrostatic actuator system.

The CR:243/1 is ideal for long term operation, and therefore has significant weather protection as well as physical security. The CR:243/1 outer enclosure is constructed from glass fibre, and is resistant to most environmental pollutants. The enclosure is sealed to IP65 standards, and all connections to the unit are made by sealed, armoured conduit to prevent damage or water ingress.

The MK:426A Outdoor Microphone, designed as a partner to the CR:243/1 unit, also features double environmental protection. The unit incorporates an electrostatic actuator system to provide automatic calibration of the entire measurement chain.

Environmental noise data can be downloaded to the host computer using our NEW Noise Hub software. This allows dial up telephone lines to be used for communications, and means that the noise monitor need only be contacted when required, typically once every day. However, if communication cannot be made with the instrument, the large memory allows measurements to be made without loss of information.

The standard CR:243/1 provides all of the essential parameters required for Environmental Noise Measurement.

Advanced recognition templates are used to monitor specific noise events, and the multiple Environmental groups allow continuous measurement of the noise climate. The unit will also remove recognised noise events from the measured noise climate information, showing the impact of those noise events.

The instrument will also store and download diagnostic information, as well as any additional measurement functions that have been added to the standard unit. The unit can also integrate weather monitors enabling the user to download integrated noise and weather data. This data is downloaded with the noise measurements as required.

The CR:243/1 has been type approved with their associated accessories by the PTB in Germany. In addition to individual component type approval, systems have also been passed by the PTB after installation. This requires the entire system from the microphone capsule to the computer with the software to provide consistent, accurate information, and represent a significant achievement.

CR:243/4CR:243/4 "Noise Pole" Noise Monitor

The CR:243/4 "Noise Pole" is a permanently installed Noise Monitoring Terminal housed in an standard street lighting pole. This makes the CR:243/4 ideal for sensitive areas where a standard Noise Monitor would be obtrusive, and minimises the risk of damage or vandalism.

The CR:243/4 is a long term monitor, and therefore has significant weather protection as well as physical security. The enclosure is sealed to IP65 standards, and all connections to the unit are made by sealed, armoured conduit to prevent damage or water ingress.

The design of the CR:243/4 is to allow the instrument to operate unattended for long periods of time. Therefore the instrument can store large amounts of data internally.

When required, this data can be downloaded to the host computer. This allows dial up telephone lines to be used for communications, and means that the noise monitor need only be contacted when required, typically once every day. However, if communication cannot be made with the instrument, the large memory allows measurements to be made without loss of information.

The standard 'Noise Pole' provides all of the essential parameters required for Environmental Noise Measurement. Advanced recognition templates are used to monitor specific noise events, and the multiple Environmental groups allow continuous measurement of the noise climate. The unit will also remove recognised noise events from the measured noise climate information, showing the impact of those noise events.

The instrument will also store and download diagnostic information, as well as any additional measurement functions, such as weather sensors, that have been added to the standard unit

Portable Noise Monitors

CCR:245R:245/3 Portable Noise Monitor

The CR:245 series consists of self contained Portable Environmental Noise Monitors, ideal for short and medium term measurements for applications such as industrial, airport, transport and construction. Both periodic environmental groups and recognised noise events are stored, along with a 7 Day Noise Profile (time history).

Operation is very straightforward simply press the start button to begin monitoring. Our NEW Noise Hub software allows you to communicate with the instrument, effectively manage your noise measurement data and create a variety of informative reports.

The instrument is fully weather protected, and can run for up to 7 days on the internal battery pack. External power can be provided to extend the operation of the unit. The unit contains many of the features of our permanent, installed noise monitors such as our CR:243/1

In addition to the basic measurements and functions a wide range of options such as Automatic Remote Calibration, external power source and remote download via Standard PSTN, Radio/GPRS or GSM Cellular Modem.
